Gambling Participation Remains Stable in Great Britain, New Survey Shows
The latest Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB), conducted by NatCen between April and July 2024, reveals that overall gambling participation remains steady at 48%, mirroring previous data from 2023 and early 2024. Notably, 20% of participants only engaged in lottery activities, such as the National Lottery, with a more active gambling participation rate of 28% when excluding these lottery-only players.
Online gambling was reported by 37% of respondents, but this figure drops to 17% when lottery-only players are excluded. In-person gambling was reported by 29%, falling to 18% when excluding lottery-only players. Demographically, males aged 45 to 64 reported the highest overall gambling participation, while men aged 25 to 34 were the most active group when excluding lottery-only players.
Betting participation saw a rise of over 3 percentage points compared to earlier 2024. The full data offers a snapshot of the nation's diverse gambling habits.
