Canada leads the international initiative for fair sport: fighting betting and corruption.

The Canadian government has established the International Task Force on Sports Integrity to address issues that threaten athlete safety and the integrity of competitions. Among the key challenges is sports betting.

Carla Qualtrough, Canada’s Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, last week hosted the first meeting of the task force, which includes representatives from Australia, Finland, France, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom. The meeting agreed on key areas of work and identified priorities.

The task force will help Canada share experiences and improve international and domestic policies to protect sports integrity.

The publication of the Sport Integrity Framework highlighted risks including illegal betting, match-fixing, discrimination and doping. The Government of Canada is actively working with partners to mitigate these threats. The Working Group will continue its work in 2025, updating approaches and resources as needed.
