University of Alberta Launches New Course for Gambling Professionals
The University of Alberta has launched a new micro-learning course for gambling professionals to give them insights into the current gambling industry in Canada.
The course is developed by political science professor Fiona Niccol in conjunction with the Alberta Institute for Gambling Studies. It addresses the increasing adoption of digital gambling platforms spurred by the rise of online gambling in Alberta.
The course is relevant for professionals from a variety of fields, such as addiction specialists, educators, policymakers and journalists. It will help them understand the regulatory and social aspects of gambling. Niccol notes that the shift to online gaming means that the responsibility for controlling their gambling habits is shifting to the players themselves.
The intensive course will be held from November 12 to 15, both offline and online, with a tuition fee of $1,000, including assessment and a networking lunch. Graduates will receive a certificate confirming their newfound knowledge in this complex and evolving field.
