Independent Panel for Gaming Reform Proposes Key Recommendations for NSW’s Gambling Industry

The Independent Panel for Gaming Reform has unveiled its comprehensive Roadmap for Gaming Reform, offering a set of recommendations designed to tackle gambling harm and improve operational standards across New South Wales (NSW). After 16 months of trials, expert consultations, and research, the panel highlights the adoption of cashless gaming technologies as a pivotal solution to curb gambling-related issues and combat money laundering. Real-world trials conducted in clubs and hotels provided valuable insights into the potential benefits of cashless systems, demonstrating how they can enhance consumer protection.

Other recommendations include reducing gaming machine entitlements and implementing a statewide exclusion register, with facial recognition technology to identify self-excluded individuals. These changes aim to safeguard vulnerable players and streamline regulatory processes. Chaired by Michael Foggo, the panel’s work will guide the NSW government’s strategy to modernize its gaming regulations, improving both consumer protections and industry standards.
