UK National Lottery Marks 30th Anniversary with £50bn Raised
The UK National Lottery is celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking the first draw on 19 November 1994. The BBC broadcast its first live broadcast, with presenter Noel Edmonds announcing the results, drawing millions of players to its attention.
The lottery was organised by Camelot, which had been the sole operator until this year. However, in February, following the launch of the Fourth Licence Period, the operatorship was transferred to Allwyn.
Over its 30 years of existence, the lottery has raised more than £50 billion ($63.4 billion) for charitable causes, including the arts, sport, education, health and the environment. For example, last month, £10 million was allocated to the conservation of Birnbeck Pier in Weston-super-Mare.
Allwyn has now announced the appointment of a new transformation manager, Elena Chambers.
