A new phase of gambling: licensing, fight against illegals and first authorizations.

Brazil is taking the first step towards launching a regulated gambling market, scheduled for January 1, 2025. The Secretary of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA), Regis Dudena, announced that the authorization process for the first 71 applicants has already begun. Of these, 16 companies have paid the license fee, which brought the budget 480 million reais (81.1 million US dollars).

The authorization of companies requires the completion of four verification stages, including security, AML procedures, responsible gaming and payment systems. In addition, the SPA is actively collaborating with the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), which has already blocked more than 5,200 illegal sites since October.

Anatel President Carlos Baigorri stressed that the agreement between SPA and Anatel allows for the rapid blocking of illegal sites, creating a fair gaming market. This move is expected to significantly strengthen the fight against illegal operators and improve security for players in the country.
