Lisa Nandy: The UK Government Supports the Development of the Gaming Industry
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has stressed the importance of finding the right balance between protecting problem gamblers and supporting the industry.
Recent speculation about potential tax increases for the gaming sector has raised concerns, with a Guardian article suggesting a potential tax “attack” of up to £3bn, sparking a backlash from the industry. Industry leaders, including Betting and Gaming Council CEO Granie Hurst and Flutter Entertainment CEO Peter Jackson, have said the tax hikes would be detrimental to the industry.
In a response to a question in the House of Commons, Nandy dismissed speculation about potential tax increases, saying the government was seeking to strike a balance. She stressed the value of the gaming industry to the UK economy and the importance of protecting players from the problems that can arise from gambling.
