New Canadian gambling regulations are moving faster than the scientific evidence to support them. According to research by the Canadian Gambling Association, regulation may be out of step with pressing issues and not detailed enough.

Experts urge regulators to pay attention to a more balanced approach, particularly in advertising, responsible gaming and the involvement of celebrities.

In April 2022, the province of Ontario was the first to introduce regulated gambling in a digital format. Other provinces, such as Alberta, are preparing to follow suit.

The researchers note that the rules should be flexible and adapted to market dynamics, considering the integration of gray operators into the legal framework to ensure consumer protection and ethical advertising.
