AGLC approves Camrose Casino's move to Edmonton, raising concerns for local charities and community support.

Alberta's Gambling, Liquor and Cannabis Regulator (AGLC) has given the go-ahead for a Camrose casino to move to south Edmonton, two years after its previous application was rejected. The casino plans to relocate from Camrose, 70 km southwest of Edmonton, to a new 88,000-square-foot facility on Parsons Street that will have 498 slot machines, 25 gaming tables and eight poker tables.

A previous relocation application was rejected due to a lack of community support, citing a lack of revenue for the existing casinos. However, the AGLC has now said the decision will help create new jobs and increase income for rural charities.

Despite the move, the Camrose casino will remain in the village's charitable gaming pool, which will limit access to its revenue to Edmonton organizations. Local non-profit organizations express concern about possible negative consequences for their resources and funding.
