Alberta's Play Alberta platform strengthens as the province readies for its iGaming debut in 2025.

Alberta is preparing to launch a new regulated gaming market in early 2025. This market is expected to become one of the largest in North America, attracting leading operators such as PointsBet Canada, DraftKings and Betway. Gaming regulation models are likely to be similar to those implemented in Ontario.

While the new market is just getting ready to open, Play Alberta remains the only legal gambling platform in the province. Since its launch in 2020, the platform has amassed more than 313,000 registered accounts and generated more than $5.36 billion in bets in the 2023-24 financial year.

Play Alberta is also active in marketing and sponsorships, signing deals with the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers. As AGLC Vice President Dan Keen noted, the organization does not take the market as guaranteed but is working on improving its products, including the launch of a sports betting application.
