Exploring the need for a coordinated approach to regulate gambling advertisements.

Bill S-269, which provides for creating a national framework for the advertising of sports betting, was recently considered at a meeting of the Committee on Transport and Communications of the Senate of Canada. Gaming industry officials and regulators have said they are doing everything they can to scrutinize gambling ads properly.

President of the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA), Paul Burns, emphasized the importance of coordinated research in the field of advertising, which will contribute to better protection of players. He noted that such research can be conducted without the adoption of new laws because the existing regulations in Ontario are already showing positive results.

Burns also emphasized that facts and data do not support some of the emotional debate surrounding gambling advertising, so more research is needed to create effective policy in this area.
