Brazil: Licensed Operators Must Pay $5.2 Million to Continue Licensing Process
Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) has begun notifying approved betting and online gaming operators that they must pay a grant fee of R$30 million ($5.2 million) to continue their licenses.
Operators, known as “Bets,” have 30 days to prove payment and submit documents, including a declaration of the legal origin of the funds. Failure to comply with the requirements will result in the final closure of applications.
Well-known companies such as Entain, Betsson, Flutter, MGM LeoVegas and others have already received notice. Applications submitted after August 2024 will be considered separately.
Approved operators will be able to officially operate in the country from January 1, 2025. At the same time, the government is stepping up the fight against illegal gambling, having already blocked over 5,000 sites.
